It's kind of about time I actually put something in the New Readers page, seeing as the comic's been running since January.

Backwater Planet is a sequel comic to a strip I ran for two years, Exco. The comics have many similarities and many differences. For instance, they are different in that Backwater Planet is better than Exco, and the same in that neither ever gets more than a few dozen readers!

Backwater Planet has many of the same characters as Exco. The regulars were Sid, Mary, Greg, Carrie, and Tom. There was also this guy named Duke in the second year, and a guy named Gabe who was originally a main character but became a secondary character early. The Kims and Thyra were both introduced in the second year. Exco took place on Earth, and Backwater Planet started when the cast left earth.

The content of Backwater Planet is pretty self explanatory. The villain, Kethera, is trying to capture all of the characters because they have information that compromises her plans to usurp power in the Galactic Empire. Jirin is the son of the Emperor and he's running away from being the Prince because he doesn't think he's cut out for politics, and because he hates the special treatment and attention he gets because everybody knows he's the prince. At the end of Exco, Sid was captured and the others had to flee earth because the bounty hunters who captured Sid saw them and wouldn't stop going after the people who cared about them unless they knew they were no longer on Earth. Carrie was able to stay behind on Earth because she wasn't at their apartment at the time of the attack.
