Resios was the the fiance of Folori Panthosa, Jirin's older sister and the oldest daughter of the Emperor. He's also the older brother of Kethera. Resios became hellbent on killing as many goolans as possible when Folori was assassinated by two of them. He was killed by a goolan named Crassius after he tried to take over the goolan ship while Sid, Mary, and Tom were on it.
Kethera was the sister of Resios, who after Resios' crimes was locked up and tortured, only to escape when Jirin bribed the guards to let her go. She came back later for revenge on the Emperor and to install Jirin as Emperor because she thought he was the only one who deserved it. She held Mary prisoner and developed a deep hatred for her based on her behavior and because Jirin seemed to care about her.
Folori was the eldest daughter of the Emperor and older sister of Jirin. She was the heir to the throne, until the senate hired assassins to kill her because she was too much of a pacifist.
Regeia was the second daughter of the Emperor and older sister of Jirin. She was heir to the throne after Folori was killed, but she was killed in an explosion shortly before Jirin ran away.
Thalis is current emperor and older brother of Jirin. He was accused of Regeia's murder, but later proved the evidence to have been faked, and took control after the civil war because Jirin wanted nothing to do with the position.
Doctor Frank was the professor in charge of the Exco class on aliens and the paranormal that originally brought Sid, Mary, Greg, and Carrie together. He mysteriously disappeared shortly after the goolans first abducted Sid. Tom, with doglike loyalty to Dr Frank, started searching for him, and left Earth because he concluded that Dr Frank wasn't anywhere on the planet.
RZ Ralian was the captain of the goolan ship. He's hostile and sarcastic but only wanted to get his crew home after being stranded on earth for so long. He would do anything short of killing people in order to do so. (The dark purple one)
Crassius was a hateful goolan with no regard for human life who considered everybody who wasn't on his side his enemy. He managed a successful coup aboard RZ's ship, but did it by making a deal with Resios which ended up getting most of the goolans killed. In the end he killed Resios, but when he came in to collect the reward, he met the misfortune of being met by Kethera, who drilled him for information about anybody who might know Resios was dead, and then killed him. (The pink one).
Drakon was a nice goolan who had sympathy for the humans who were held captive aboard the goolan ship, and eventually helped them escape. He was stranded on earth even after the other goolans made it home, but RZ came back to get him, and he successfully escaped as well. (The yellow one).
A Convenience Engine is basically the warp engine of the Backwater Planet universe.
Convenience Energy is energy that causes convenience to the plot to take precedence over the laws of physics. Some applications of this are the Conveneince Engine and the Convenience Chip.
A convenience chip is a chip which when placed in your ear, allows you to understand and communicate with anybody regardless of language. You hear them talking in your language, and they hear you talking in theirs. Like the universal translators in Star Trek. (They're a total crock, but having to constantly speak in made up languages and use subtitles would have been terribly inconvenient.
Goolans are a race of creatures that dominate most of the inhabited galaxies in the universe. They are made up of...goo. Colorful goo. They can stretch into any shape, but to interact with humanoids they use transparent biosuits in the vague shape of a humanoid. They communicate with each other by electric impulses, but they can also speak verbally. A ship full of goolans was stranded at Earth for fourty years, and eventually all but five were killed. Those five made it home.
CTDs are energy weapons that stun humanoids but destroy goolans immediately.
Stunguns are weapons that goolans can affix to the 'hands' of their biosuits. One shot stuns, the second shot kills. (I was making fun of Stargate at the time.)
Biosuits are strong transparent shells vaguely humanoid shaped that goolans use to allow them to move quickly without getting dirty. It also makes them stronger.
OIGA is the Obnoxious Incompetent Government Agency. The rush in, declare everything their jurisdiction, and muck everything up. Then cover it up.
