Hundreds of years ago her race first started evolving the ability to change shape, so the Malkuise Empire kidnapped a few thousand of them and wiped out the rest, before eugenically evolving them to improve their ability to shapeshift, and genetically engineering them to have superior strength and agility. Later the Panthosian Empire destroyed the researach lab, and Dr Sakir escaped with only the six best shapeshifters, including Raya and Ishix. Raya was raised alongside normal people so she'd learn about them and learn out to manipulate them, but it had the side effect of making her emotionally attached to other people, wishing she could just be one of them. Sakir tried to brutalize her to make her emotionless and obedient, but Ishix protected her from it. Later on her first assassination mission, she turned herself in for a different murder so she'd be thrown in prison, out of Sakir's reach. Later she escaped prison with Sid, met up with Ishix and rescued the other sethers, before Ishix ran off with the other four, angry that Raya is more attached to Sid than him.
