Jirin is the main character of the story. He's the fourth child of the leader of the Panthosian Empire, which considers most of our galaxy as it's territory. His oldest sister Folori was killed 23 years ago, and his next oldest sister Regeia was killed recently, leaving him second in line to inherit the throne. His brother Thalis is believed to be responsible for the murder, and if that is the case, it would make him next in line. But, Jirin wants no part in politics, so he fled from home in search of his commoner mother, before meeting up with the rest of the cast.
Jirin is aloof and self-deprecating. He's got a cunning mind that he underrates, and uses his 'aloof' persona as a distraction.
He realizes he's been spoiled and sheltered, and that is part of his motivation for helping Greg, Mary, and the Kims. He wants to experience people who don't know he's the prince of the Empire.
Mary is a human from Earth who was forced to flee when her boyfriend Sid was abducted by men working for Kethera, who also tried to take her, Greg, and the Kims because they were with Sid at the time. They left on a small ship they acquired in their previous alien encounters.
Mary is an aspiring artist who recently graduated from college, and who was working as a waitress in the meantime.
Mary is a sensitive girl with a tough front, a big playful side, and an acerbic toungue. She has a history of hurting people unintentionally, and of taking large burdens onto herself to protect the people she cares about.
She's also been continuously trying to re-define her identity ever since a bad relationship ended in 2003, directly prior to Exco.
Greg is a human from Earth. He was a physics major in college, a junior, and he was roommates with Mary and Sid.
Greg is an intellectual and a geek, with an obsession with anime and science fiction. He hates his father, who was once convinced he was gay, and is now convinced he's a goth, and that he needs 'help'.
Greg has a crush on Mary which he keeps to himself (Though he fantasizes about her). He's never been on a date in his life and fancies himself the underdog hero.
Kim is a human from Earth. He's a very logical, skeptical mind and very interested in computer science, but hasn't officially decided on a major yet. Kim is Greg's best friend, who he met in high school, and was in Greg's apartment when it was raided. He and his girlfriend, also named Kim, were forced to flee because the bounty hunters saw them with Sid and Mary. The Kims are in a very committed relationship which has lasted almost two years, and sometimes have trouble keeping their hands away from each other.
Kim plays an unhealthy amount of video games, mostly RPGs. And, he has the same interest in science fiction as Greg, but not to such a fanboyish extent.
Kim is also a human from earth, and the third member of Greg and Kim's circle. She's two years older than Greg and Kim and didn't meet them until college.
Kim is easygoing and energetic and tries to get along with everybody. As opposed to Greg and Kim who are geeks by choice, Kim considers herself a geek by default. A group she kind of fell into because all the people she considered friends were part of it.
Kim has worked making costumes for a theatre company, so she's been making clothes for the group while they're stranded out in space. Her father is a master poker player who's taught her how to tell when somebody is lying. She's madly in love with Kim and doesn't see that changing in the near future.
Tom is a human who does not waste words. He expresses no emotion of any sort, and everything he ever does is to accomplish a goal. He considers himself the apprentice of 'Doctor Frank', who is an alien who came to Earth posing as human because he thought Resios, a genocidal maniac, was hiding there. Two years ago, Doctor Frank mysteriously dissapeared, and he's spent all the time trying to find him.
Thyra is a Myrakien; A race with an humanoid upperbody and a snake tail instead of legs. The Myrakien are a xenophobic race who live on a planet called Napharim, only allowing outsiders to come to a small trading port, which they are not allowed to leave. Myrakien don't hate members of other races so much as they have no interest in them whatsoever, and consider themselves separate from the rest of the galaxy and want to keep it that way.
Thyra is one of the few myrakien to ever leave Napharim, and not by choice. Thyra's interest in other cultures caused her to be manipulated into helping an outsider named Kirik steal an irreplaceable relic from one of their temples. Thyra was exiled until she was able to recover the relic and bring it back.
Because the myrakien are so xenophobic and have a very different body structure than anyone else in galaxy, they're resented and feared. Partly due to fear of the unknown and partly due to the rumours that spread about myrakien. So, Thyra was forced to join the Panthosian military for sustenance because nobody else would hire her. She was sent to scout Earth in 2005 because Earth was on the list of planets Resios might be hiding on. There, she met up with Mary and company, and ended up deserting the military and leaving with Tom. The agreement was: She would help him find Doctor Frank, and he would help her recover the relic.
Thyra is wary of anybody she doesn't know because she's become accustomed to being manipulated and used, but she gained trust for Tom, Mary, and Greg while she was on earth.
(Picture coming later). Kethera is the main villain of the story so far. She is a Panthosian, whose brother Resios became genocidal after his fiance, Folori, the heir to the throne, was assassinated. After Resios killed seventy million people in a nuclear massacre, he fled and hid. Kethera was taken and tortured for information about where he might be hiding. She was going to be killed, but somehow she escaped and secretly worked herself back into a position of influence.
In her current scheme, she found a double of her deceased brother, and fabricated evidence that he was not responsible for the massacre. She's trying to work herself back into the royal family, and is trying to kill Sid, Mary, Greg, Tom, and the Kims because they know Resios is dead.
(Picture coming later). Sid is a human from Earth and Mary's boyfriend, who was captured when Kethera assaulted them on Earth. He was made to confess to a murder so he could be publically transferred to a prison to lure Tom into trying to rescue him. In prison, he manages to survive because he is under the protection of Jakanda, a very large man who lives in seclusion in the caves.
Sid's relationship with Mary was troubled because he had a boring personality. He's pretty much an average person with a meager background who works hard. He's gotten a B in every class he's ever taken. He always tried to be more adventurous like Mary wanted him to but couldn't get into it as much as he wanted to. He loves Mary and was devoted to her, but had trouble with her rough edges.
(Picture coming later). Raya is an inmate in the same prison mining colony sid was brought to. She is a shapeshifter, and occasionally takes the form of Jakanda in order to protect herself and anybody she feels she wants to protect. Not much is known about Raya at this point, other than that she is in prison a murder which she committed, but was forced to commit by holding people she cared about hostage. She's repentant, and questions whether there's any difference between what she did and the brutal murders all the other inmates committed. She confides in Sid and trusts him because she believes that he honestly did not commit the murder he was accused of, but she has not told him she is a shapeshifter.
Picture coming later). Carrie was one of the main characters in Exco, and a lesbian. When Kethera went after the other characters, they fled Earth quickly so Carrie wouldn't have to leave her life behind too. Unfortunately, she was accused of their murderers. She was found not guilty because there wasn't enough hard evidence (No bodies, no murder weapons, but there was a lot of Sid's blood on the floor on a shirt of hers). But, her case became a high profile case because Kim, one of her alleged victims, is the astranged daughter of a Congressman. News stations assumed she was guilty from the beginning, so everybody thinks she is a murderer except her family and closest friends. To make it worse, Greg's father is a hardcore religious person who donates heavily to Pat Robertson. Pat Robertson heard one of his donors' son was murdered by a lesbian and seized the opportunity to attack the gay movement and imply homosexuality leads to criminal behavior.
Carrie was dating a woman named Lisa, but broke up with her when she distanced herself from Carrie so not to be associated with murder, even though she was with Carrie when her friends left Earth and knows she didn't kill them. Carrie is passionately liberal, violently feminist, and frequently attends protest rallies, during which she is proud to say, she has been arrested. Although she is not a fan of men, she likes Sid, Greg, and her other male friends, who she thinks of as androgynous.
